Temperament with this breed is quite happy, and eager to please. They can be headstrong but with proper training this can be lessened. Clicker training and reward training do very well with this breed. This breed is in the utility group so they need lots of area to run and play. Due to their Brachycephalic head this breed needs to be kept from overheating. This trait is also in most terriers and bulldogs as well.
Docking of the ears and cropping of the tail is still done in most countries. The tail is more often done for show animals and the cropping of the ears is acceptable either way. This procedure is usually done when the animal are very young puppies or young dogs.
